November Medical Conferences 2016: A Unique Platform for Maritime Health Professionals

The medical world has always been fascinated by the challenges posed by the maritime environment. The unique demands of healthcare at sea require specialized knowledge and expertise to ensure the safety of life in hazardous and perilous conditions. To address these concerns, the XXXII Annual Conference of Marine & Allied Sciences was held on November 11-12, 2016, at the INHS Asvini Auditorium.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr Subash Bhamre, Hon'ble Raksha Rajya Mantri, who emphasized the importance of medical professionals working together to promote, protect and maintain safety of life in maritime environments. The Medical Council of India has approved a new stream for specialization at MD level, which was announced during the conference.

The guest of honor, Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command, attended the conference along with Lt Gen MK Unni, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, and other senior medical officers from the armed forces. The event also featured prominent scientists and faculty members from institutions such as AFMS, Pune, and AIIMS, New Delhi.

The XXXII Annual Conference of Marine & Allied Medicine provided a platform for medical professionals engaged in maritime health to share ideas and advances in medical sciences. The release of the 'Journal of Marine Medical Society' containing original scientific work in the field of Marine Medicine was also an integral part of the conference.
